History
Where the tarot's seventy-eight card structure and the Lenormand's thirty-six carry a shared, historically inherited symbol vocabulary this atlas's own Tarot and Lenormand report item pages describe in full, oracle decks are a distinct and later category with no such shared structure: no standard suit or trump system, no agreed card count, and no single historical canon. Each oracle deck is instead an independent artist or author's own creation, defining its own card meanings in its own accompanying guidebook rather than drawing on an inherited symbol vocabulary the way tarot and Lenormand readers can assume across different decks. This atlas catalogs fifty such decks, spanning decks that borrow heavily from Golden Dawn era tarot correspondences to decks built from wholly original, freeform contemporary art and symbolism.
How A Reading Is Constructed
Because no fixed canon governs oracle decks generally, a reading works from the cards actually drawn and the specific deck's own stated meanings for them, rather than assuming the shared correspondences a tarot or Lenormand reading can rely on. Where a deck deliberately departs from, or borrows selectively from, older tarot or Lenormand conventions, the reading names that departure rather than reading the deck as if it shared those older systems' fixed structure.
