Akhlaq Virtues gathers qualities Islamic virtue ethics holds up as central to character, akhlaq being the Arabic term for that whole field of moral character rather than a name for any one virtue. The five recorded here, among them patience, gratitude and trust in God, come from a tradition rooted in the Quran and hadith rather than in the Greek philosophy that shaped the Western cardinal and theological virtues catalogued elsewhere in this section, and the two schemes should not be read as translations of each other.
