This page groups myths by what job the story actually does for its society. Wikipedia notes that "origin myths explain how a society's customs, institutions, and taboos were established and sanctified," while "national myths are narratives about a nation's past that symbolize the nation's values." Browsing by kind-of-myth lets a visitor tell an origin myth from a national one.
