Ancient Near Eastern and Mediterranean Texts

Esoteric or ritually significant texts from the ancient Near East and Mediterranean world, predating or standing apart from the Hermetic, Gnostic and grimoire traditions filed under their own groupings nearby: the Egyptian Book of the Dead, the Sumerian King List, the Ugaritic Baal Cycle and the still only partly deciphered Etruscan Liber Linteus. What unites the group is age and region rather than a shared genre; a funerary text, a king list and a mythic cycle sit together here because no more specific esoteric grouping fits any of them.
