Anglican Religious Communities

Gathers the monastic and mendicant communities of the Anglican Communion, revived in the nineteenth century Oxford Movement and its aftermath after three centuries without formal religious life following the English Reformation's dissolution of the monasteries. The heading spans communities of monks, friars and sisters organized on Benedictine, Franciscan, Cistercian or Dominican lines within Anglican or Episcopal jurisdiction, together with newer contemplative and mission communities founded on the same monastic model. A member belongs here for its formal home within the Anglican Communion or an Episcopal church, distinct from the Catholic orders whose rule it may share and from the ecumenical communities that deliberately span more than one Christian tradition.
