Buddhist Monastic Orders and Schools

Gathers the ordained sangha traditions and named schools of Buddhism, from the legally recognized monastic orders of Theravada Southeast Asia and the Chan and Zen lineages of East Asia to the lay and modernist organizations, such as Buddha's Light International Association and the Vipassana and mindfulness movements, that carry a named teaching lineage into contemporary practice. A member belongs here for its own ordination line, monastic rule, or organized teaching lineage within Buddhism, distinct from the individual Buddhist teachers and monks who are catalogued as historical figures rather than as institutions.
