All Cacti

Columnar and button cacti of the Americas whose ceremonial standing rests on their alkaloid content rather than on their form. They are kept apart from Herbs because they are succulents of arid country and because their ritual roles belong to particular indigenous traditions rather than to a general materia medica. Both entries here sit inside living practices that regulate who may use them, so the atlas records the tradition and the restriction rather than any procedure.
