Concerns Description on Heathenry
Currently States Heathenry is the modern reconstruction of the pre-Christian religion of the Germanic-speaking peoples, called also Asatru, loyalty to the Aesir, and in Scandinavia Forn Sidr, the old way. Practitioners honour Odin, Thor, Freyja, Freyr and the rest of the Aesir and Vanir, along with ancestors and the spirits of particular land. Two rites carry most of the practice in the Anglophone and Icelandic-descended currents of the movement: the blot, an offering of mead or food poured out to the gods, and the sumbel, a formal round of drinking in which toasts, oaths and boasts are spoken and are held to bind the speaker. Swedish Forn Sed organizes practice differently, around three rites, blot, gille and ting, and does not use sumbel as a native term; the formal toasting round is folded into the blot itself there, called skalande or a skalrunda. Most Heathens belong to autonomous groups of five to fifteen people, called kindreds or hearths, rather than to congregations, and there is no central authority, no creed and no scripture; the Eddas and sagas are read as sources rather than as revelation. The movement is divided, sharply and publicly, over whether the gods call whom they will or whether the religion belongs by right only to people of northern European descent.

Emma Hernejarvi (Samfundet Forn Sed Sverige) reported that sumbel is largely an Anglophone-usage term without a native Swedish equivalent, that Swedish Forn Sed practice is organized around three rites, blot, gille and ting, and that formal toasting is folded into the blot itself there, called skalande or a skalrunda. Verified against Samfundet Forn Sed Sverige's own site (samfundetfornsed.se, Blot, gille och ting, 2013-05-19, and its Blot page, read directly before citing): the org's own account confirms all three points, three pillars named exactly as she described, no use of "sumbel" found anywhere on the org's own site, and the toasting round (skalrunda) described as a stage of the blot rather than a separate rite. She also correctly flagged the entry's modern-group sourcing as leaning on the US and Iceland with little on Sweden; the two organizations and the scholar she named were independently verified (Forn Sed Sweden founded 1994, Nordiska Asa-samfundet founded 2014, Fredrik Gregorius a real senior associate professor at Linkoping University publishing on modern Swedish Heathenry). This is a different regional and linguistic account, not a rejection of the blot/sumbel framing, which remains accurate for the Anglophone and Icelandic-descended currents the entry was describing; the entry's description was widened to hold both accounts rather than overwritten.
