Amber, Colors Amber is the King scale colour of Cancer in the Golden Dawn's four Qabalistic colour scales. Where a modern astrological source gives a sign a colour, this lineage is very often the unnamed origin of it.

The Golden Dawn assigned its Empress colour scale to Assiah. Because the order's papers circulated so widely in print, its four scales are now better known in English than the Kabbalistic doctrine whose names they carry.

The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn named the first of its four Qabalistic colour scales the King scale and assigned it to Atziluth. The borrowing is nineteenth century and one-way: classical Kabbalistic literature gives the worlds no palette, and the colour scales are not a Kabbalistic doctrine.

Blue-green is the King scale colour of Scorpio in the Golden Dawn's four Qabalistic colour scales. It is unrelated to the Chinese qing of the Wood phase, which this colour also renders; the two systems arrive at the same band by different routes.

The Golden Dawn assigned its Queen colour scale to Briah. The order used the four world-names as an ordering device for a system of its own making; reading the scales back into the Kabbalah is the commonest way this material gets misdescribed.

Crimson is the King scale colour of Pisces in the Golden Dawn's four Qabalistic colour scales. The order's scales are the source behind a great deal of later popular colour astrology that cites no source at all.

The Neophyte ceremony and the whole Golden Dawn sequence are citable only because Israel Regardie published the order's rituals from 1937, against the wishes of members then living. What the atlas records comes from that publication and the scholarship on it.

Red-orange is the King scale colour of Taurus in the Golden Dawn's four Qabalistic colour scales, published in Regardie's edition of the order's papers. The scale is a nineteenth century construction and is not shared by astrological traditions outside that lineage.

Yellow-green is the King scale colour of Virgo in the Golden Dawn's four Qabalistic colour scales. The four scales run King, Queen, Emperor and Empress, so any one sign carries four colours rather than one.

The Golden Dawn assigned its Emperor colour scale to Yetzirah. That an occult order of the 1890s borrowed a name is a fact about the order, not about the world it named, and the two should be read as separate subjects that share a word.
