Popular and folk celebrations that grew up around the Christian calendar, Carnival, Dia de los Muertos, Las Posadas and the Feast of Fools, distinct from the formal liturgical feast days, Christmas and Easter among them, filed under this atlas's cross-tradition feasts grouping. Several of these absorbed pre-Christian or indigenous elements as Christianity spread, so their content is often more regional folk custom than church doctrine.
