Turkey, officially the Republic of Türkiye, is the country mainly in Anatolia in West Asia, with a smaller part called East Thrace in Southeast Europe, bordering the Black Sea, the Aegean Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The source records that present-day Turkey was home to ancient peoples such as the Hattians and Hittites, that Hellenization followed the conquests of Alexander the Great and Romanization the Roman and Byzantine eras, that Seljuk Turks began migrating into Anatolia in the eleventh century, and that Mehmed II conquered Constantinople in 1453. Mosques, tombs, rites and texts are placed here when they belong to the modern country.
