Church Fathers and Mothers

Church Fathers and Mothers are the early Christian writers and teachers, chiefly of the second through eighth centuries, whose theology, biblical commentary or ascetic example the later church treats as formative and authoritative. A figure belongs here for that patristic-era standing, distinct from a later reformer, theologian or bishop writing within an already-settled doctrinal tradition.
