This page groups religious offices by how a new holder is chosen, whether by election, appointment or inheritance. Wikipedia notes clergy roles "usually involve presiding over specific rituals and teaching their religion's doctrines and practices," duties handed on through whichever succession method a tradition has settled on. Browsing by mode-of-succession lets a visitor find every office filled by the same method.
