Gertrude the Great, also known as Gertrude of Helfta, was a German Benedictine nun and mystic who lived from 1256 to 1302 and was a member of the Monastery of Helfta. Although herself a Benedictine, she had strong ties to the Cistercian order, and her monastery at Helfta is currently run by Cistercian nuns.
