Abilene Christian University is a private university in Abilene, Texas, affiliated with the Churches of Christ. It opened in 1906 as Childers Classical Institute, became Abilene Christian College in 1920, and adopted its present name in 1976. ACU offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs and is generally regarded as the largest and most academically prominent of the universities affiliated with the Churches of Christ.
