About

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia was established as a diocese in 1808 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1875, with jurisdiction over the city of Philadelphia and the counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery. Its mother church is the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, completed in 1864 near Benjamin Franklin Parkway and elevated to a minor basilica in 2016. The archdiocese operates parishes, schools, and Catholic institutions across southeastern Pennsylvania.
