The Diocese of San Antonio was established in 1874 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1926. Its mother church, San Fernando Cathedral, traces its parish founding to 1731 by settlers from the Canary Islands and is the oldest standing church building in Texas. The archdiocese serves Catholic parishes and institutions across south-central Texas.
