About

The Badshahi Mosque was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in 1671 and completed in 1673, facing the Lahore Fort across the Hazuri Bagh. Its red sandstone with marble inlay is among the largest surviving works of Mughal religious architecture, and the mosque remains the second largest in Pakistan. It is administered by the Department of Auqaf and Religious Affairs of Punjab, which manages it as a working congregational mosque as well as a protected monument.
