Belur Math on the west bank of the Hooghly is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1897. Its main temple, completed in 1938, was designed to read as a church, a mosque and a temple from different angles, expressing the order's position that the paths converge.
