Data Darbar is the shrine of the eleventh century Sufi Ali al Hujwiri, known as Data Ganj Bakhsh, whose treatise Kashf al Mahjub is among the earliest Persian works on Sufism. The shrine was nationalised in 1960 and is administered by the Department of Auqaf and Religious Affairs of Punjab. It is the most visited shrine in Pakistan by annual attendance, and the annual urs draws pilgrims from across south Asia. The shrine has been the target of attacks, and access is controlled.
