Hongwanji in Kyoto, usually called Nishi Hongwanji, is the head temple of the Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha, the largest school of Shin Buddhism. Its Goeido and Amidado halls date from the seventeenth century, and the temple keeps daily services and the annual Hoonko memorial for Shinran.
