Lalish in the Shekhan district of Nineveh is the holiest site of the Yazidis. It holds the tomb of Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir, shrines to other holy figures, the springs Zamzam and Kaniya Spi, and a cave containing the tomb of Sheikh Hesen. Yazidis are expected to make a six day pilgrimage there once in a lifetime, and the seven day Feast of the Assembly is held in the autumn. The community was the target of a genocide in 2014 and the site carries that history.
