The Malankara Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church in North America was established in 1993 by Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I as an archdiocese for Malankara Syriac Christian communities, part of the Oriental Orthodox Syriac Orthodox Church under the Patriarchate of Antioch. It is headquartered in Old Tappan, New Jersey. This body is distinct from the autocephalous Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church under the Catholicos of the East, a separate Indian Orthodox communion.
