The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, formally the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, was founded in 1911 by Fr. James A. Walsh of Boston and Fr. Thomas F. Price of Raleigh with the approval of Pope Pius X. It was the first Catholic missionary society founded in the United States, established at a time when the country itself was still considered mission territory, and its members have served overseas missions across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Its headquarters occupies a hilltop campus in Ossining, New York, from which the society takes its name.
