Quán Sứ in central Hanoi was built in the fifteenth century under the Lê dynasty, on ground that had held a guest house for envoys from Buddhist kingdoms, which is what its name records. It is the headquarters of the Buddhist Sangha of Vietnam, the state recognised body for the country's Buddhists, and houses its offices and a Buddhist studies institute alongside a working temple in the Mahayana tradition.
