The Salt Lake Temple is the flagship temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, standing on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Construction began in 1853 and the temple was dedicated in 1893 after 40 years of building. It is used for sacred ordinances such as endowments, sealings, and baptisms for the dead rather than for regular Sunday worship, and is currently closed for a multi-year renovation.
