The Soka Gakkai is a global, community-based Buddhist organization centered on Nichiren Buddhism, promoting peace, culture and education through respect for the dignity of life. Founded in Japan in 1930, it counts members in 192 countries and territories and was formally organized worldwide in 1975 as the Soka Gakkai International. Membership is open to the public through daily home practice and local discussion meetings.
