Sri Dalada Maligawa at Kandy houses the relic of the Buddha's tooth, held by the last kingdom of Sri Lanka and still a focus of Theravada devotion on the island. Thevava rituals are performed three times a day, and the Esala Perahera procession carries a replica casket through the city in the middle of the year.
