Irish Articles of Religion

Anglican
Origin from 1615

The Irish Articles of Religion of 1615 are 104 theological articles adopted by the Convocation of Protestant clergy in Dublin as the doctrinal standard of the post-Reformation Church of Ireland, likely authored chiefly by James Ussher, then Vice-Chancellor of Trinity College Dublin. They defined the Church of Ireland along more thoroughly Reformed lines than the Thirty-nine Articles did for the Church of England, but after the accession of Charles I, the appointment of William Laud as Archbishop of Canterbury, and the Restoration of 1660, they were superseded by the Thirty-nine Articles as the Church of Ireland's own standard. They nonetheless significantly influenced the Westminster Confession of Faith of 1646, later adopted by the Church of Scotland and Presbyterian churches worldwide.
