Jasy Jatere is a spirit of Guarani mythology, one of the seven children of Tau and Kerana, whose name literally means a little piece of the moon, though he is chiefly associated with the siesta, the yerba mate plant and hidden treasure rather than with the moon itself. Described as a small, fair-haired figure, he is said to wander villages during the daily siesta hour searching for children who have not gone to sleep, causing anyone who looks upon his staff to fall into a trance.
