Saraakka

Sami Deities

Saraakka, also spelled Sarakka, is one of the Ahkka group of Sami fertility goddesses, a group that also includes Maderakka, Juksakka and the live Uksakka figure recorded under the shared Ahkka tradition. Saraakka is associated with childbirth and the opening of the womb, and belongs to the household of female deities who, together with the male high god Radien-attje and his household, form the core of traditional Sami religious belief.
