Astabi

Hurrian Deities

Astabi is a Hurrian war god who appears as an ally of the storm god Teshub in the Kumarbi cycle of myths, the central succession narrative of Hurrian mythology. He takes part in the battles Teshub wages against the monstrous champions Kumarbi raises to challenge him for kingship of the gods, fighting on the side of the established divine order. His role is defined almost entirely through this martial alliance with Teshub, reflecting the importance the Hurrians placed on war deities as guarantors of cosmic and political order.
