Qat

Melanesian Deities

Qat is the principal creator deity in the oral mythology of the Banks Islands of northern Vanuatu, Melanesia. Though never formally worshipped, he is credited with creating the islands themselves, night, death, marriage customs and the local song language, and with carving the first humans from dracaena wood and bringing them to life through music.
