Phosop, also spelled Phaisop, is the rice goddess of the Thai people, a figure of ancient Thai folklore more closely tied to agricultural tradition than to any structured, mainstream religion. She is also known as Mae Khwan Khao, meaning Mother of Rice Prosperity, a name that reflects her role safeguarding the wellbeing and abundance of the rice harvest central to Thai rural life.
