Phra Mahachai Phraisop, also called Phra Mahachai or Phra Phraiprasop, is the Thai god of rice, credited with the same duties and characteristics attributed to the rice goddess Mae Phosop but in male form. As protector of the rice crop, Phra Mahachai Phraisop belongs to the same layer of Thai agricultural folk religion that reveres Phosop, reflecting the central place rice cultivation holds in Thai rural life and belief.
