In Cherokee tradition, Selu, whose name means Corn, is one of the first two humans, alongside her husband Kanati, The Lucky Hunter. Selu secretly produced corn and beans by rubbing her stomach and sides to fill baskets, a method her sons discovered by spying on her; once her secret was known, Selu prepared the boys one last meal, and she and Kanati told the boys that the two of them would now die because their secret had been found out.
