Mapuche Deities

Ngenechen, also spelled Nguenechen or Guenechen, is regarded as the most important deity in the present-day religious beliefs of the Mapuche people of Chile and Argentina. Originally one of the Ngen, a class of governing spirits in Mapuche tradition, Ngenechen came to be understood as a Supreme Being through the blending of Mapuche belief with Catholic tradition, functioning today much as God does in Abrahamic faiths.
