In the mythology of the Wunambal people of northwestern Australia, Ungud is a snake deity who is sometimes described as male, sometimes as female and sometimes as androgynous. Ungud is associated with rainbows, and lived underground as a giant python in the time before creation when only the sky and the earth existed; the deity is credited with causing rain and is linked to the monsoon. At night, Ungud and the sky deity Wallanganda were said to create living beings through their dreams, and the Mother Goddess Kunapipi, also called the Old Woman, is connected to Ungud in the same tradition.
