Nine Wind Sacred Mushrooms Nine Wind, known in Mixtec as Coo Dzavui, is a culture-hero deity of Mixtec mythology identified with the feathered-serpent figure known among the Aztec as Quetzalcoatl. According to the creation account preserved in the Codex Vindobonensis Mexicanus I, Nine Wind descends from the heavens, consults with the other gods, and lifts the bands of sky and water to reveal the Mixtec earth, later bringing the sacred mushrooms consumed by the highest-ranking deities in the ceremony that brings forth a new sun. Nine Wind is recorded here as its own Mixtec entity, distinct from the Aztec entity Quetzalcoatl already live on this atlas, reflecting the wider Mesoamerican pattern of feathered-serpent culture heroes appearing under different names in different peoples' own sacred histories rather than a single shared figure; a future depth or structure wave should review whether a same-as or DistinctFrom edge between the two is warranted.
