Hurrian Deities

Sauska, also called Sausa or Sawuska, was the highest ranked goddess in the Hurrian pantheon, associated with love and war as well as with incantations and, by extension, healing. Although usually referred to with feminine titles such as allai, references to a masculine Sauska are also known. The Hurrians associated her chiefly with Nineveh, but she was worshiped across a wide area, from Anatolian cities in Kizzuwatna through Alalakh and Ugarit in Syria to Nuzi and Ulamme in northeastern Mesopotamia, and she was later introduced into southern Mesopotamia in the Ur III period, where she came to be associated with Ishtar; growing Hurrian influence on Hittite culture eventually brought her into the Hittite state pantheon as well.
