No Establishment

This page groups denominations by whether a state has adopted one as its official religious body. Wikipedia notes that some countries "define themselves in religious terms, such as The Islamic Republic of Iran," conditions under which a single denomination or school can carry formal state backing. Browsing by establishment status lets a visitor separate an officially established denomination from one with no such standing.

Overview
What Defines This Grouping
The movements of modern Judaism, which differ over the binding authority of halakhah, the place of critical scholarship and the accommodation of modern life, together with the older streams they grew out of. All are continuous with rabbinic Judaism and its texts. 2
Attestation
Era of Attestation

The movements of Judaism

This group gathers the main movements of Judaism, particularly as they developed in the modern period in response to emancipation and modernity. Judaism is both a religion and a people, and its denominations differ mainly over the authority and interpretation of Jewish law (halakha).

The browser will find Orthodox Judaism (including its Haredi and Modern Orthodox forms and the Hasidic movements), Conservative (Masorti) Judaism, Reform Judaism, and smaller and older streams. The atlas describes each movement's stance on law, tradition and change without privileging any as normative.
