Sujud Sahwi

Devotional Practices

Sujud sahwi, the prostration of forgetfulness, is a corrective practice performed during salah when a worshipper unintentionally omits an obligatory part of the prayer or adds an extra element to it. An omission is corrected before the closing tasleem, while an addition is corrected afterward while still seated; in either case the worshipper performs two prostrations preceded by the takbir, following guidance attributed to Muhammad in hadith, to validate the prayer.
