Divination by Cards, Casting and Signs

Divinatory rites that read an answer from a drawn, cast or moved object: tarot reading, geomancy, consulting the I Ching, casting the runes, the Aztec board game of Patolli used in divination and the nineteenth century table-turning of spiritualism. A ritual belongs here when its cited article describes divination by cards, lots, casting or moving objects. It excludes divination by examining an animal's organs.

The table was purportedly made to serve as a means of communicating with the spirits; the alphabet would be slowly spoken aloud and the table would tilt at the appropriate letter, thus spelling out words and sentences.
