Ma'bad al-Juhani

Islamic Scholars, Jurists & Sufi Teachers

Ma'bad ibn Kalid al-Juhani was a member of the Juhaynah tribe, which lived around the city of Medina in Arabia, and he died in 80 AH, which is 699 CE. He was a Qadari, an idea he got from Sinbuya, and some of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, such as Abd Allah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab, declared him misguided. According to a couple of sahih hadith, he was the first person to speak about al-Qadar, the doctrine of predestination, or at least the first person in Basra to speak about it. He was crucified by order of the Caliph Abd al-Malik in Damascus, and his ideas were later followed by Gaylan ibn Muslim ad-Dimashqi.
