This page groups groups of this kind by the era they were actually founded in. Wikipedia notes that scholars date some "as far back as the founding of the Latter Day Saint movement in 1830 and of Tenrikyo in 1838." Browsing by origin period lets a visitor compare how old one group is against another.

Seven Movements Between a Sustainable Village and a Staged Ascension

This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.

Esoteric Movements gathers seven groups drawing on Western esoteric currents, Theosophy, ceremonial magic, Kabbalah and New Age teaching, ranging from respected intentional communities to a movement whose members died in violent deaths staged as a spiritual transition.

Findhorn Foundation and Damanhur are the most institutionally established of the seven. Findhorn began in 1962 when a family growing vegetables in poor Scottish soil attributed unusually large produce to cooperation with nature spirits, and grew into a foundation the United Nations recognizes as a model of sustainable development. Damanhur, founded in Italy in 1975, built the Temples of Humankind, an elaborate complex hand carved in secret inside a mountain, and governs itself as a federation with its own constitution and currency.

The Kabbalah Centre opened traditional Jewish mystical study, ordinarily restricted to observant scholars, to the general public through courses and products including red string bracelets, drawing sustained criticism from Orthodox authorities. Fellowship of Friends and Church Universal and Triumphant each built communities around a leader claiming higher spiritual authority, Fourth Way teaching derived from Gurdjieff in one case and Ascended Master dictations in the other, both later drawing allegations against their founders.

Two ended in death. Love Has Won's leader, called Mother God by followers, was found dead in 2021, leading to the arrest of several members, and the Order of the Solar Temple, blending neo Templar mythology with Rosicrucian and apocalyptic themes, taught that its adepts would transition to a higher plane associated with Sirius before a series of violent deaths among its members ended the group.
