Practice Status

This page groups practices by whether they are still carried out today. Wikipedia notes that "in French, for example, sections in newspapers giving the schedule of worship for Catholic services are headed Culte Catholique," ordinary evidence of a still-living practice. Browsing this way lets a visitor tell a living practice apart from one preserved only in historical description.

Overview
What Defines This Grouping
Standing commitments a tradition treats as conduct rather than as rite - non-injury, refusal of a medical procedure on doctrinal grounds, the provision of ceremony and pastoral care without religious content. The grouping is defined by the absence of a ritual form rather than by a shared ethic, and its members do not agree with one another. 2

The Ethical Practices

This group holds ethical practices, the disciplines of right conduct and moral cultivation by which the traditions train character and shape behaviour toward others: the keeping of precepts, the practice of virtue, and the examination of conscience.

The browser will find ethical practices from various traditions. The entries describe each practice's form and the moral vision it serves, noting the tradition to which it belongs.
