Gritsamada is a Vedic rishi, a seer to whom tradition ascribes most of the hymns of the second mandala of the Rigveda. The Sanskrit dictionaries quoted by Wisdom Library call him a Vedic rishi and an author of several hymns in the Rigveda, and place him in the family of Bhrigu, although a Puranic account makes him first a son of Suhotra of the Angirasa line whom Indra's will moved into the Bhargava family. The Puranas also name his son Shunaka, and the Puranic Encyclopedia entry reports that he once lectured Yudhishthira on the glory of Shiva. He is entered here so the second mandala of the Rigveda can be attributed to its traditional composer.
