All Annual Flowers

Flowering plants that sprout, bloom, set seed and die within one year, so that each generation must be grown again from seed, such as chamomile, marigold, sunflower and the opium poppy. A plant belongs here when its cited plant database page gives its life cycle as annual and it is not a climbing plant. It excludes the perennial flowers, which return each year, and the bulb and climbing flowers, which have their own groups. Their showy single season of bloom and their abundant seed explain why these flowers are so often tied to the sun, to the harvest and to the turning of the year in folk tradition.
