Greek and Roman Sky

Cancer is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Cancri, its standard abbreviation is Cnc, it is traditionally shown as the Crab. It belongs to the Zodiac family of constellations. The constellation covers about 506 square degrees of sky, ranking 31st in size among the 88. Its brightest star is β Cnc (Tarf) at apparent magnitude 3.53. It borders Lynx, Gemini, Canis Minor, Hydra, Leo and Leo Minor. In this atlas the entity is the shared sky reference for astronomical objects catalogued by constellation, so every star, nebula or galaxy located within Cancer resolves to one identity.
