Capricornus is one of the 88 modern constellations recognized by the International Astronomical Union. Its genitive form is Capricorni, its standard abbreviation is Cap, it is traditionally shown as the Sea-Goat. It belongs to the Zodiac family of constellations. The constellation covers about 414 square degrees of sky, ranking 40th in size among the 88. Its brightest star is δ Cap (Deneb Algedi) at apparent magnitude 2.85. It borders Aquarius, Aquila, Sagittarius, Microscopium and Piscis Austrinus.
